In Punjab’s Malerkotla, a Granthi from Scheduled Caste community was reportedly assaulted, humiliated, his face was blackened and urine was thrown at his face by Upper caste Sikhs.
The incident occurred in Abdullapur Chuhane village of Malerkotla district of Punjab. The Granthi’s name is Hardev Singh who later filed a complaint on August 14.
He alleged that his face was blackened and he was forced to drink urine. When he resisted, the urine was thrown on his face. He accused five men in his complaint and two have been reportedly arrested. According to Dainik Jagran’s report, those booked include two brothers and the president and treasurer of the gurudwara committee.
“A case under different IPC sections, including 365 (abduction), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, has been registered,” a police official said.
