A Scheduled Caste family in Delhi has been traumatised after allegedly being brutally attacked by their neighbours. Ramesh Chandra, a member of the family residing in JJ Colony Shakurpur, Delhi, reported that on March 3, 2023, at around 9:30 am, four individuals – Rahul Sain, Hemant Sain, Rohit Sain, and Nitish Sain – forcefully entered their house and assaulted the family with deadly blows. The attackers allegedly hurled casteist slurs at them, indicating their lower caste status and continued to beat them up mercilessly.

Ramesh reported that his father was beaten on the street and that Rahul Sain had even used derogatory words such as “dirty drain worm,” and “low caste” to insult him. The family suffered severe injuries, and some were subjected to obscene acts. An FIR has been filed by the Netaji Subhash Place police station, but it did not include the SC/ST Act or attempt to murder charge, which the family is seeking.

In an interview with Dalit Desk, Ramesh Chandra detailed the attack and the injuries the family sustained. He expressed concern that the attackers were still at large, with Nitish Sain, a bouncer at a gym, sitting outside his house with goons and giving them death threats. Rahul Sain, a lawyer, was also allegedly using his position to intimidate the family.

Ramesh Chandra demanded justice and protection from the police, calling for the attackers to be caught and punished severely under the relevant sections. The incident highlights the urgent need to address and eradicate caste-based discrimination from our society.
