The brutal murder of a 16-year-old Scheduled Caste girl in Delhi has sent shockwaves through the nation, prompting the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) to issue a notice to the Delhi government and police. The girl was stabbed over 20 times and bludgeoned to death reportedly by a 20-year-old man, Sahil Khan, who has been arrested. The SC Commission has launched an independent inquiry into the case and demanded a detailed action-taken report within three days.
The horrific incident took place on Sunday in the Shahbad Dairy area of Delhi. Sahil Khan, the accused, has confessed to the crime during police interrogation. When shown CCTV footage, he admitted, “I am the man in the video. I killed her.” It was revealed that Sakshi and Sahil had known each other and followed each other on Instagram for the past two years.
The attack on the victim was incredibly brutal, with the girl being stabbed 20 times. The murder weapon, a knife, even got stuck in her head at one point. Sahil then proceeded to bludgeon her with a nearby boulder five times, all while people passed by without intervening. The accused showed no guilt during his interrogation, according to Delhi Police officials.
The grieving mother of the victim demanded a death sentence for Khan, emphasizing that he should be hanged for his heinous crime. She revealed that her daughter never mentioned anything about Khan prior to the incident.
The NCSC has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and initiated an independent inquiry under Article 338 of the Constitution. They have issued a notice to the Commissioner of Police, the concerned Joint CP and Deputy Commissioner of Police, as well as the Chief Secretary and the Secretary of the Department for the Welfare of SC/ST/OBC. The SC Commission has also requested specific details of compensation paid to the victim’s family as prescribed under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The Delhi Police has registered an FIR under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code, but it does not mention any section of the SC/ST Act, according to officials. The SC Commission has sought clarification on the sections under which the FIR was registered.
