In yet another caste based discrimination case, in Maluka village of Punjab, Scheduled Castes women went to participate in Teej Festival where separate food arrangement was exclusively done for them.

Sukhdeep Kaur, a scheduled caste woman from the same village went to one of the food counters for food and her plate was snatched by another woman, Kuldeep Kaur. Kuldeep asked Sukhdeep to serve herself from the counter that was arranged for women from scheduled castes. 

Teej is a festival in Punjab where women gather, dance and celebrate among themselves.

Similar incident happened with two other scheduled castes women Manpreet Kaur and Sandeep Kaur. The host Raghbir Singh even made an announcement from the stage saying that separate arrangements are done for guests from scheduled castes. Disgusted with this, Sukhdeep kaur filed a police complaint.  

“According to the initial investigations, discrimination was done as different eating arrangements were made and dalits were stopped from eating at a place earmarked for upper castes. A case has been registered at Dialpura Police Station under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) and Section 3 of the SC/ST Act against Raghbir Singh, Jagsir Singh, Swarna, Lakha Singh and Kuldeep Kaur of Maluka village,” said Bhagta police post in charge Sub-Inspector Ganeshwar Kumar.
