BSP supremo Mayawati and former UP CM, Mayawati has criticized the Bihar government’s decision to amend its prison rules, which could lead to the release of gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan, convicted for the murder of Dalit IAS officer G Krishnaiah in 1994.

The amendment to the Bihar Prison Manual, 2012, notified by the home department on April 10, states that the murder of government personnel on duty will no longer be counted as an exception but considered a “simple” murder. Experts suggest that this amendment, Rule 481 1A, paves the way for the release of Anand Mohan, who has been serving a life term for the murder of G Krishnaiah.

The decision has drawn criticism from Mayawati, who view it as a move that supports Dalit oppression and crime. Mayawati tweeted, “The preparation to release Anand Mohan, convicted for brutally killing honest Dalit officer G. Krishnaiah in Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana) in connivance with local police by Nitish government in Bihar, is causing a lot of anger among Dalit communities across the country. Which is a sign of anti-Dalit sentiments and pro-criminal actions. Even if there is some compulsion, the Bihar government should reconsider this issue seriously.”

The release of Anand Mohan, who was convicted for the murder of a Dalit IAS officer, has sparked controversy and criticism from Dalit community, including former UP CM Mayawati. The amendment to the Bihar Prison Manual, which now considers the murder of government personnel on duty as a “simple” murder, has raised concerns about the safety and security of Dalit communities.
