Uma Devi, the wife of IAS officer G Krishnaiah, expressed discontent with the Bihar government’s decision to release Mafia-politician Anand Mohan Singh from prison. Mohan was found guilty of inciting a mob to lynch district magistrate Krishnaiah. Uma Devi has asked the prime minister and president to intervene.

Uma Devi stated that the individual who murdered an honest officer had been released. In an interview with AajTak, Uma Devi called Anand Mohan’s release “an injustice” and stated the Bihar government made the wrong decision.

G Krishnaiah, a Telangana-born Scheduled Caste IAS official who was the district magistrate of Gopalganj at the time, was attacked and shot dead by a mob in 1994 while his vehicle was passing through Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district.

The release of Anand Mohan, a convicted murderer of a Dalit IAS officer, is deeply troubling and raises serious concerns about the caste politics at play in Bihar. By amending its prison rules, the state government is effectively sending a message that the murder of government personnel from the Dalit community is not a serious crime, which further fuels caste-based discrimination and injustice. This case serves as a reminder of the need to address the systemic biases and prejudices against marginalized communities in India and to ensure that justice is served equally for all.
