Amid Harassment and Casteist Remarks, Dalit Principal in Gujarat dies  by Suicide

In a tragic incident that happened in Amreli district in Gujarat, a school principal who belonged to scheduled Castes, Kanti Chauhan, died by suicide on Friday following alleged harassment and casteist remarks. Chauhan, who served at a government school in Juna Janjariya village, Bagasara taluka, consumed poison while on school premises. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed during treatment. His lifeless body was transferred to Junagadh Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Before his devastating decision, Chauhan recorded a heart-wrenching video message, detailing the circumstances that led him to this drastic step. In the video, he revealed, ‘The Sarpanch had been relentlessly threatening me, pressuring me to surrender the grants I had received. He not only harassed me but also spread malicious messages about my caste across the village’s social media groups.’
